American Idol’s return was pretty much business as usual except for a couple of things. There’s a fourth judge, Kara DioGuardi and she seems like she’s got a level head on her. I was afraid that DioGuardi had been too sweet the first time out, but she knows what she’s looking for and that’s a good thing.
I still think American Idol judges, including DioGuardi, were terribly mean to a few people who didn’t deserve it. But overall, Fox made good on their word to limit the truly horrible performances on American Idol. I saw a couple of kids in the Idol pack that could go all the way — new haircut, new clothes, a little training and the winner might be one of the first chosen to go to Hollywood.
On the heavier side, I watched NCIS and The Mentalist. NCIS in particular was tough to watch as Ducky was accused of war crimes. David McCallum is a wonderful actor and seeing him play such a dark place was very distressing. A great performance but I prefer his more lighthearted side.
There was magic in the air on The Mentalist as they tracked down the murderer of a football star. Lots of red herrings in this one including an is-she or isn’t-she witch! Good episode.
It’s a mixed bag tonight as ABC prepares of the return of Lost and American Idol and new judge DioGuardi rolling on. Let’s take a look
