Carrie Ann Inaba hosts AMAs preshow
Carrie Ann Inaba is so excited about her new gig, she's giggling to SheKnows. As the American Music Awards are set to rock ABC on November 23, Dancing with the Stars' most talented and beautiful judge is covering the awards' red carpet broadcast - something Inaba and SheKnows has in common.
Both SheKnows and Inaba will be working the red carpet at the Nokia Theatre in Hollywood as the best in music and entertainment crosses our paths into the awards show. With superstars such as Mariah Carey, Pink, Alicia Keys and Coldplay set to perform, the fest is sure to be beyond compare.
Also on this phone call to discuss the awards is first-time American Music Award nominee Colbie Caillat. Both Caillat and Inaba are giddy with excitement.
Each is approaching the American Music Awards from a first-timer's perspective. The red carpet host and the musician invited to the big dance with a nomination for Breakthrough Performance, Inaba, Caillat and SheKnows are all about the American Music Awards this weekend. (That…and Twilight!)
SheKnows: Well, hello both of you.
Carrie Ann Inaba: Gooooooood. You got that sexy voice!
SheKnows: Well (going deeper), 'thank you very much.'
Carrie Ann and I are both now laughing.
SheKnows: I must be doing the right thing then using this voice to talk to fine people such as you.
Carrie Ann is now laughing in hysterics.
Carrie Ann Inaba: Yes you are!
SheKnows: First of all, thank you for visiting with SheKnows.com. It is a pleasure to speak to both of you. We can't help but get psyched for the show on Sunday with all the hype. How are things in preparation days before from where you two are sitting?
Carrie Ann Inaba: I think it's going to be fantastic. I'm doing the 2008 American Music Awards Red Carpet Live! This is the first time they've done this so we're trying to make it the most exciting show it can possibly be for the American Music Awards. We've got Chris Harrison and myself are co-hosting and Nicole Scherzinger is going to be out there on the red carpet. Christian Siriano is with us doing fashion segments. We've got Corbin Bleu, who's backstage getting all the behind the scenes action right before the show starts. And, we have a special performance by Dave…(laughs), I call him Dave now, my buddy – David Cook, live on the red carpet. Plus we're going to introduce all the wonderful people passing by including Colbie!
SheKnows: So Colbie, how does it feel to be a nominee a few days before the big show?
Colbie Caillat: I'm really excited. I went to rehearsal yesterday and it became more real to me. I've never been to the AMAs before so, I'm looking forward to it. I'm excited to having the dress and walking the red carpet, presenting, and being nominated. It's going to be an amazing night. There are a lot of incredible performances, too.
SheKnows: Of course, the nominees are equal, but you look at that performance list and you look at the year, it has been an incredible year for women.
Colbie Caillat: Huge!
Carrie Ann Inaba: Yeah!
SheKnows: I wanted to see how you both felt as the awards are upon us and you are both in your own way such a big part of it.
Carrie Ann Inaba: It's a huge year for women. Annie Lenox is taking the Award of Merit, which is an incredible honor. And, you have people like Beyonce, and Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey, they're all performing. Miley Cyrus, who's also a new Diva in the mix – and Natasha Bedingfield – Taylor Swift – it's a great night for women. The boys are going to have to get to it if they want to keep up with the ladies.
SheKnows: It sure seems that way.
Carrie Ann Inaba: Pink too! She's performing!
Colbie Caillat: Oh my gosh, so many!
SheKnows: Even though they are not 'Divas' in real life, it is a Diva-fest!
Carrie Ann Inaba: They are divas in the best sense of the word. Is that right (laughs)? You know what I mean, right Joel?
SheKnows: You got it. You got it! Both of you have walked the red carpet for something in the past, but this is a little different for each of you. How are you approaching it differently?
Colbie Caillat: This is different for me. I've been to the Grammys before, but I was never presenting or was nominated, this is the firs time. I'm going to have to worry about what I'm wearing and practice what I say before I present because I don't want to forget a line, there's some preparation.
Carrie Ann Inaba: I've been on a few red carpets walk them, that's nerve walking on its own. Now, to be hosting and interviewing people is a huge honor – especially at the AMAs because it's always been my favorite show. There's a little bit of pressure. I'm a little nervous. I've got to practice my microphone technique because on Dancing with the Stars I wear a hair microphone. This is a little different with the hand-held mike.
SheKnows: Don't forget that microphone is there!
Carrie Ann Inaba: Oh, I know! That is actually what I will be practicing. That, and choosing the dress. That's a big part of it. That's really fun. I try not to be stressed about it. I try to have a lot of options.
SheKnows: And the day of, is getting ready something that both of you are going to require a lot of time for? Or, do you have a routine down, that you will get out the door in a flash.
Carrie Ann Inaba: What time are you going to start getting ready?
Colbie Caillat: Well...I think we're leaving at 3, so to not be stressed, probably eleven. But, you don't want to be ready too far ahead because then your makeup will fail and your hail will get flat.
Carrie Ann Inaba: I'm going to be there early because we have to do run-throughs and rehearsals and check out the lay of the land. I think will be in full makeup by noon. I will have to be touched up…a lot (laughs)!
