Jada Pinkett Smith is having quite a year. Her Madagascar 2 is this week’s top film and this follows another hit film and the announcement of her helming a drama for the mighty TNT.
Smith’s performance in this year’s The Women helped that film become a modest hit earlier in the fall. The box office week went as planned with the DreamWorks animated gem topping the charts with its $63.5 million take. The late Bernie Mac had his shadow all over two films on this weekend’s charts. The first, Madagascar 2, finished tops, and his Soul Men earned $5.6 million to finish just out of the top five at number six. Smith and her Madagascar mates knocked off last week’s top film, High School Musical 3, and bumped it to number three. High School Musical 3 adding another $9.3 million to its growing profits. The number two film of the weekend was a surprise, the Seann William Scott and Paul Rudd comedy, Role Models, with an extremely respectful $19.3 million.
This week’s charts:
1. Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa ($63.5 million)
2. Role Models ($19.3 million)
3. High School Musical 3: Senior Year ($9.3 million)
4. Changeling ($7.3 million)
5. Zack and Miri Make a Porno ($5.6 million) Check out our video interview with Jada and Debra Messing for The Women:
