Good men fall and the underdogs rise up, maybe to win it all on last night’s So You Think You Can Dance.
I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but I think it’s time for Twitch to go! Not that everyone wasn’t excellent last night, but I gotta look at who has grown and changed as a dancer. Twitch is still Twitch and I’m not sure that should be rewarded with a win. But Mark and Joshua, wow, they’ve both come such a long way. Joshua in particular went from this lumbering untrained dancer to a man who simply floats across the floor.
{healine}Down on the dance floorMark and Courtney delivered a simply gorgeous Viennese Waltz. It was romantic and airy and I loved every second of it. Then they came back with this creepy-cool jazz routine that was like something out of a Tim Burton movie. The real standout here were Mark’s facial expressions during the routine, all wacky and lusting and scary. Great job. And I think that having Mark as a partner really works for Courtney.
Joshua and Katee took on a Tyce DiOrio Contemporary number about forbidden love and it was so powerful. The judges were nearly speechless with the wow factor. They followed that with my least favorite dance, the Paso Doble. Not so, this time. Joshua’s strength and Katee’s fire in this number made it so much more than the usual ballroom style. A real show and it was very entertaining.
Chelsie and Twitch got to Mambo their little hearts out but Twitch was just average in this routine. Hard to beat Chelsie’s amazing bootyshake and fabulous footsteps. It was entertaining but not a winning performance in my book. It got even worse for me when they performed a Hip-Hop number about two conductors fighting over the baton. First off, their wardrobe was incredibly distracting. Beyond that, it just looked sloppy to me. Bad luck of the draw for these two, ending with a comedy routine. Those never grab the audience the way the emotional ones do.
So that’s that. Tonight, two more are going home and then it’s on to the finals. Incredibly, it might be Chelsie and Twitch hitting the road, Jack. And at this point, I’d be fine with that.
