Kanye West and British group UGK were big winners at last night’s BET Awards, taking home two prizes each. Both shared the stage with other talented winners of the night including Alicia Keys, Missy Elliot and Chris Brown.
Kanye won for Best Hip Hop Artist and Best Collaboration on Good Life featuring T Pain, while UGK was named best group and won video of the year for International Player’s Anthem (I Choose You) featuring Outkast.After receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award, Al Green sang his famous tune “Let’s Stay Together,” and later said backstage, “I’m sorry I didn’t sing as well as I could. I got scared.”Queen Latifah introduced humanitarian award winner Quincy Jones, saying, “He showed us black entertainment is more than just a hustle. It’s more than just selling albums. It’s about inspiration,” and calling Jones “an international artist, an innovator and a leader”.Presidential candidate Barack Obama was a hot topic of conversation. “If we all register and vote, we will have the first black president in the history of America,” Sean “Diddy” Combs said.
