A strange night filled with gaffs, but no surprise as to who was going home on “So You Think You Can Dance.”
What a strange night it was on “So You Think You Can Dance.” Dancers couldn’t find their marks, mics didn’t work and Cat Deeley, whom I adore, was very off her game.
It all began with a lackluster dance number by the Top 20. With Nigel as a hostage, they danced and pranced and maybe they were doing some amazing stunts but the camera angles were all over the place and I just didn’t feel like I could latch on to it.
When it came to announcing the bottom three, there was only one surprise. Chosen were Rayven Armijo and Jamie Bayard, Kourtni Lind and Matt Dorame and (the surprise) Jessica King and Will Wingfield. I really thought disco couple Courtney Galiano and Gev Manoukian would be in the bottom three, but no. And did anyone else get a weird feeling when Cat announced that Jessica and Will were in the bottom? She had a quick shift of tone and said, ‘congratulations’ and for a second I wasn’t sure which couple was going through.
Time to dance for your lives and everyone, with the exception of Will, danced unremarkable solos. As the judges deliberated The Pussycat Dolls took the stage with their catchy, saucy new tune, “When I Grow Up,” and then it was time for the eliminations.
Coincidentally, it was the first couple, Rayven Armijo and Jamie Bayard who were given their walking papers. I guess Nigel was right when he said he didn’t think the audience would remember them by the end of the night.
And with that it was, so long Rayven and Jaime, we hardly knew ya.
