Box office down 20% from last year
When is a number one film at the box office a disappointment? If the movie involves Will Ferrell and a sports comedy and only takes in $15 million, that's how.
Over the weekend box office, films top to bottom felt the heat of the slowing U.S. economy. Ferrell's "Semi-Pro" took the top spot with its $15.3, knocking off last week's top film, "Vantage Point." That star-studded film (Sigourney Weaver, William Hurt, Matthew Fox, just to name a few) finished second with another $13 million bringing its total in two weeks to $41.
Not a bad view!
Taking third place in the weekend box office was "Spiderwick Chronicles" adding another $8.8 million to its haul and America's fourth favorite film was "The Other Boleyn Girl." The latter film surprised experts with its $8.3 million debut. Closing out the top five was another former number one film, "Jumper," finishing the weekend with another $7.6 million pushing its total profits to $66 million.
