Could this be the final cast change for “Law & Order?”
Variety is reporting that Jesse L. Martin will be leaving “Law & Order” after completing only one additional episode. Martin has played Detective Ed Green since 1999 and it’s hard to believe.
Ahh, it seems like only yesterday that he was taking over for Benjamin Bratt, but Jesse quickly became a viewer favorite.
When Detective Green first joined the team, he was partnered with the veteran Lennie Briscoe (Jerry Orbach). He had a cool, laid back style and a fabulous smile. He was then partnered with Joe Fontana (Dennis Farina) and Nina Cassady (Milena Govich) but neither partnership brought much to the table and the series appeared to be floundering.
Then Cyrus Lupo (Jeremy Sisto) came into the picture, and “Law & Order” was back on top. And though the show is famous for surviving in the face of major cast changes — this is one I’m not so the series can weather.
Word is that Martin will be replaced by former “K-Ville” star Anthony Anderson, and though I like his work, I can’t see him side-by-side with also new Jeremy Sisto.
Without Martin, it’s going to take quite a lot to pull me back into what was already a fading franchise.
