Christian Brando, the troubled son of late actor Marlon
Brando, died of pneumonia Saturday morning in an LA-area hospital. He was 49 years old.
Christian’s death adds to the tragic history of the Brando family. Christian spent five years in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter in the 1990 death of his sister’s boyfriend, Dag Drollet, at the Brando family estate. Christina claimed the gun went off accidentally during an argument that ensued after Drollet beat Christian’s pregnant half-sister Cheyenne.
Cheyenne committed suicide in 1995 at the age of 25 after losing custody of that baby.
Christian was later sued by ex-wife Deborah Brando, alleging domestic violence, and claiming that Christian threatened to kill her in front of her teenage daughter. He was later charged with domestic violence and plead guilty, receiving three years’ probation.
Christian was also romantically tied to Bonnie Lee Bakley, who was shot to death in 2001. Her husband, actor Robert Blake, was accused and acquitted of the crime, and his defense team attempted to pin the murder on Brando, who denied any involvement.
“This is a sad and difficult time for the family,” David Seeley, a Marlon family attorney, said.
