Helio Castroneves takes the mirror ball trophy!
It was one heck of a ride, but last night race car driver Helio Castroneves was crowned the winner of Dancing With the Stars. I must say I was a bit worried when it was down to three and Marie Osmond was still in the competition. I love her to pieces, but she didn’t deserve to make the finals. I was digging my fingernails into the arm of the couch waiting for the announcement and then it came! Marie was out leaving Mel B and Helio to battle for the trophy.
Those were my two picks but I too was a bit disapointed by Mel and Max’s free style routine on Monday night. I heard later that Max had hurt his back really badly so maybe that led to them toning down the dance. And when it came to announcing the winner, Max did not look like a gracious loser! As a matter of fact, he later told ABC news that he wouldn’t be returning to the show in the spring. When asked why he made a comment about needing a break, but the way he said it was odd. Gave me the impression that he’d made that decision as soon as he heard that Julianne had beat him out for the prize.
This season of Dancing With the Stars was fraught with drama, from Marie fainting, to both she and Jane losing a parent. Jane’s sickness, Jenie’s fall and last night the unlucky streak continued. After dancing his farewell dance with partner Sabrina, Mark Ballas was taken away in an ambulance. Sabrina played it down as some trouble with his shoulder, but Max told reporters it was a muscle tear and that Mark was in tremendous pain. You’d never know it to watch him dance.
It was nice to see all of the couples back, most of them dancing again and the routine to “My Heart Will Go On and On” was just too lovely for words.
All in all, a great ending to a terrific season. Can’t wait to see what happens when the show returns in March.
