Calling all Black-ish fans: you won’t want to miss the season seven premiere tonight. It kicks off at 9 p.m. EST on ABC, but if you cut your cable, don’t fret. You can also watch it for free on Hulu + Live, in realtime, so you won’t have to worry about running into spoilers.
The mid-season premiere has the Johnsons dealing with a blackout. The power outage causes Dre (Anthony Anderson) to go into survival mode and create quite the toilet paper stockpile. (Trust us: This stockpile will make your March 2020 orders look like nothing special.)
The first half of Black-ish‘s seventh season didn’t shy away from addressing the pandemic. Dr. Rainbow Johnson (Tracee Ellis Ross) was on the frontlines working, and while her son Junior was supportive, he snuck out and broke quarantine to see his girlfriend. The show has never been afraid of having difficult conversations.
“We put a lot of burden on one segment of society to go into certain jobs,” Black-ish showrunner Courtney Lilly told The Hollywood Reporter. “Asking certain people to make sacrifices while the rest of us continue not to is a really worthy story. We’re not good at doing the things that inconvenience us — that was the interesting part of this story.”
In order to watch the new episode tonight without cable, you can sign up for Hulu + Live. They offer a seven-day free trial when you sign up, so you can watch it and then take advantage of all the other shows Hulu has to offer. After the trial is up, the subscription costs $64.99 a month.
