Everything We Know About Kelly Clarkson & Brandon Blackstock’s Divorce

After nearly seven years of marriage, Kelly Clarkson has filed for divorce from husband Brandon Blackstock, a move that few fans saw coming. While Clarkson and Blackstock have refrained from making official statements on the end of their marriage, details are starting to emerge about the couple’s last few weeks together while quarantining at Clarkson’s cabin in Montana. These details paint a picture of mounting tensions and hard truths about their relationship — suggesting that, while this divorce may have been a surprise to us, Clarkson and Blackstock have been struggling for some time.

Here’s everything we know about Clarkson and Blackstock’s divorce.

They Had Differences From the Start

According to an Us Weekly source, Clarkson and Blackstock weren’t the match made in heaven that everyone saw them as. “Everyone thought Kelly and Brandon had the perfect marriage, but they definitely didn’t,” said the source. “Brandon’s very laid-back, whereas Kelly’s pretty high-strung.”

“They clashed on so many levels, and being in quarantine together heightened their problems to the point of no return,” the source added. “So she filed for divorce.”

Another source close to the couple told People that their marriage had taken a turn for the worse as work demands increased and they struggled to balance childcare for their young kids. The source said Clarkson and Blackstock had “been like friends for a while.”

“Things had changed in their marriage and the split was a while coming,” the source claimed. “They both work so hard. It’s nearly impossible to enjoy each other, especially with the children needing constant attention.”

Quarantining in Montana Made Everything Worse

Clarkson herself was very open about the strain of quarantining in her Montana cabin with her husband and kids. “Honestly, I have been on an emotional roller coaster. This has been really hard as a working parent, because I’m still doing all the same jobs,” Clarkson said on Glamour Unfiltered. “It’s been exhausting honestly, cooking every meal and cleaning nonstop after toddlers and teenagers! Everybody’s learning from home now and the teaching! So, everything has been crazy.”

Clarkson and Blackstock share two kids, Remy and River Rose. Blackstock also has two kids, Savannah and Seth, from a previous marriage. While they’ve spoken lovingly about their big family in the past, it sounds like Clarkson was getting overwhelmed with these new demands.

“It was a stressful time,” People’s source explained. “[Quarantining] exacerbated any issues.”
