Chrissy Teigen Is the Latest Celeb Pledging Money to Bail Out Protesters

Over the past few days, many Americans have broken their silence to speak out and gather in the streets to honor George Floyd and protest the racial inequality that continues to plague our country. Despite the ongoing pandemic — and several states still currently under quarantine — many individuals have chosen to join in solidarity with their local communities to fight this injustice.

Some protests got heated, both literally and figuratively, and — no surprise here — led to arrests of protesters. But many celebrities have pledged to use their resources to help bail out protesters who ended up in jail. The latest? Chrissy Teigen.

Last night, the Cravings author and model mama took toChrissy Teigen Is the Latest Celeb Pledging Money to Bail Out Protesters Twitter to share her intentions, writing: “In celebration of whatever the fuck maga night is, I am committed to donating $100,000 to the bailouts of protestors across the country.”

Later, after taking a further intake into the situation along with community feedback (including a now-deleted tweet labeling the protesters “criminals”), Teigen doubled down (or doubled up?) on her donation, following up on her previous tweet with another: “Ooo they might need more money then. Make it $200,000.”

She reposted the exchange on Instagram, too, steering her followers to direct links.

Of course, Teigen isn’t the only celebrity raising her voice and donating her money: As People reported, Stars including Seth Rogan, Steve Carell, Janelle Monae, Don Cheadle, Kehlani, Jameela Jamil, among others, have donated to the Minnesota Freedom Fund, a nonprofit organization to help criminal bail and immigration bonds for those who cannot afford to take these actions themselves.
