Thanks to the coronavirus quarantine, virtual teleconferencing apps like Zoom have basically become the new norm. But it wasn’t always that way, and Girls’ Trip star Tiffany Haddish had to learn the ins and outs of this rising form of digital communication the hard way. And by hard, we definitely mean mortifying. Because on Wednesday, she revealed that she once committed the cardinal sin of the video chat app: taking it to the bathroom.
That’s right — Haddish lived out our worst nightmare and is now sharing her cautionary tale. So, how did this even happen? Chalk it up to inexperience. As the actress-slash-comedian hilariously confessed during Wednesday’s virtual edition of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, she just wasn’t familiar at the time with the logistics of the app. “Zoom, I hadn’t really been using it at that point in time, and I thought whoever is on the front thing, whoever’s talking, that’s who we can see,” she told host DeGeneres.
“So, I was like, ‘I ain’t going to say nothing, and I’ve got to use the restroom,’” she continued. “I didn’t want to leave the meeting either, so I took the phone with me, because I didn’t know you could scroll over and that everybody could see everybody. I didn’t know. I took it with me and started using the bathroom. They were like, ‘Um, Tiffany, you know you’re in the restroom, right?’ And I was like, ‘Y’all can see me?!’”
On the plus side, Haddish booked the show she was on the Zoom call about in the first place. Clearly, they didn’t hold her bathroom mistake against her. In fact, it may have been the thing that won them over.
Quarantine has been a learning experience for Haddish in more ways than one. She recently decided to do an impromptu cooking show on social media to show off the produce from her garden. The problem? About halfway through the DIY production, she realized she didn’t have a bra on beneath her shirt.
“This is true. Look, being in quarantine, why wear a bra? Let them things swing. Let ‘em be free. No restrictions at this point in time,” she told DeGeneres. “But yeah, I had some action going on in there, looking like I was ready to feed somebody. So, I was pretty disappointed that I forgot. But I didn’t forget today — I put a bra on today.”
Yep, it’s official. Haddish is the relatable quarantine buddy we all need right now.
