Jane Fonda has been waiting 20 years for this moment. While we’ve all been trawling Instagram and YouTube for at-home workout videos, Fonda joined TikTok to remind us where the original home workout came from — Fonda’s iconic 1980s videos, which had a cult following back when home fitness meant popping in the latest VHS. The Book Club star is reminding us that there’s no one better to turn to when you need an at-home sweat sesh, and we’re penciling in our next Fonda workout ASAP.
Fonda didn’t just dabble in workout videos — her method, the Jane Fonda Workout, was legendary, based on her New York Times best-selling book Jane Fonda’s Workout Book. And if you’ve ever seen Fonda, it’s not hard to see why people are trying to get her enviable shape, or why they’re so eager to have her as their personal exercise coach.
Today, Fonda hasn’t lost her touch for a second when it comes to leading workouts. “Hello Tik Tok! I’m bringing back the Jane Fonda Workout,” the actress writes, sharing a clip from her 1982 video before cutting back to herself on a yoga mat. “Come on and do it with me,” she encourages fans, starting a series of leg lifts.
But Fonda’s not here just to plug her workouts. She came to TikTok to promote action against climate change: “What I would really like for you to do is to work out with me for the planet,” Fonda addresses her fans. “There’s a climate crisis that’s a real emergency. Whether you’re on your couch or your yoga mat, would you join me for the virtual Fire Drill Fridays? The future needs you, I need you.”
Fonda has been attending Fire Drill Fridays, weekly protests demanding action against climate change, and they’re now being moved to a virtual platform. As if you needed another reason to be obsessed with this woman — fitness icon and eco-queen?! Join Fonda on Fire Drill Fridays by registering here.
