Like so many award shows, concerts, premieres, and other gatherings, the Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards have been postponed due to the new coronavirus pandemic. But fear not — our favorite country music stars can’t be held back for long. The ACM Awards have rescheduled the show and announced their new 2020 date. Finally, something to look forward to!
The awards show was originally scheduled for April 5 at 8 p.m. ET, and the academy will now be running a special called ACM Presents: Our Country instead. The show will feature top country artists performing at-home concerts of their hits, along with clips of favorite moments from past ACM Awards.
Obviously, nothing can completely replace the experience of having the awards show as planned. For one thing, we won’t really be able to capture red carpet moments from the comfort of everyone’s living room (and glam teams aren’t exactly an option for celebs right now either). But still: It’s heartwarming to see performers come together to offer some lightness and distraction, and we certainly don’t plan to miss the Our Country special.
Hopefully, by September the world will feel a lot safer. But until then, I’ll watch Carrie Underwood on a livestream any day.
