Lending a helping hand. Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban are the latest celebrities to speak out about the devastating Australian wildfires that have burned millions of acres of land, killing both animals and people, and destroying homes. The couple took to Instagram to share their support and also announce that they’ve donated $500,000 to the Rural Fire Services.
“Our family’s support, thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by the fires all over Australia,” they shared on the social media platform along with a list of links for others to donate to, if they choose. “We are donating $500,000 to the Rural Fire Services who are all doing and giving so much right now.”
The natural disaster weighs heavily on the couple, who share a home together in Australia, which is where the country singer was raised. On Jan. 4, the 52-year-old actress was visibly distraught while attending an event where she told reporters, according to People, “I’m so sorry I’m so distracted by what’s happening in Australia.”
Nicole and Keith aren’t the only stars affected by the tragedy. Pink also took to Instagram to announce that she is doing what she can to help first responders and victims of the wildfires. “I am totally devastated watching what is happening in Australia right now with the horrific bushfires. I am pledging a donation of $500,000 directly to the local fire services that are battling so hard on the frontlines,” she wrote. “My heart goes out to our friends and family in Oz.”
“Thank you so so so much for your support!” an Australian fan commented. “Even your raising awareness will do so much for my homeland ❤️ bless you 😘.”
