Prince Harry & Meghan Markle Are Using Their Canadian Vacation to ‘Reset’ as a Family

We all might wish that life had a reset button sometimes, right? Well, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Canadian vacation could be it for the royal couple. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are coming to the end of their six-week hiatus — the last 11 or so days of which (at least) they’ve spent in Canada. And according to a new source, the time was exactly what the Sussex family needed going into 2020.

When Buckingham Palace announced earlier in the year that Harry and Meghan would not be spending the holidays with the rest of the royal family, it created a considerable amount of buzz about discord among the royals — despite the fact that the palace underscored the decision was in line with past precedent. Still, it wasn’t a difficult leap to think that Harry and Meghan needed a little time out of the royal spotlight. From the relentless scrutiny Meghan faces from the British tabloids to speculation about Harry and William’s rumored feud, 2019 wasn’t exactly a low-key year in the house of Sussex.

So, they found a way to reclaim a bit of peace. “They’re using their time off to reset and spend quality time as a family,” a source told Us Weekly. “After a turbulent year, it’s just what the doctor ordered.”

The Duchess of Sussex will attend @OneYoungWorld opening ceremony this evening to continue her support for this amazing collective of global youth ambassadors. Her Royal Highness was a counsellor for OYW in Dublin in 2014 as well as in Ottawa in 2016. This evening she again joins world leaders and activists to celebrate the youth of today as they tackle some of the world’s greatest problems. She is proud to attend as Vice President of The Queens Commonwealth Trust and to continue her long-standing commitment to this very important summit. Later this week The Duchess will hold a round table discussion with several of the OYW young leaders to address the issue of gender equity worldwide, and how we can all play our part to reach equality for all. Ahead of the opening ceremony tonight, we take a look back at some photos and moments from HRH attending One Young World in the past. While Harry and Meghan have managed to keep their Canadian vacation off-the-radar for the most part, what little has leaked about their time there does sound relaxing. A second source told Us Weekly that the couple — along with 7-month-old son Archie, naturally — flew to Toronto to visit with Meghan’s best friend, Jessica Mulroney. They later met up with Meghan’s mom, Ragland, in Vancouver. According to AOL, the couple has been spotted jogging and hiking around Horth Hill, a park in the North Saanich area of British Columbia.

And while the quality time seems to have served its purpose as a much-needed mental and emotional reboot for Harry and Meghan, it could also have doubled as time to discuss their family expansion. When asked by Yahoo UK what the Sussexes possibly have planned for 2020, royal expert Omid Scobie hinted, “I don’t think we’ll see many new patronages or anything like that, I think it will really focus on what they have on the table now — possibly another royal baby, who knows….”
