Miley Cyrus Releases ‘Sad Christmas Song’ and Sends Message to Lonely Fans During the Holidays

For many, the holidays are a magical time of year filled with family, friends, and lots of love — but for some, it can also be a very isolating time, and Miley Cyrus knows that feeling all too well. The singer took to her Twitter on Saturday evening to release a new Christmas song — titled “My Sad Christmas Song” — which she wrote years ago during a lonely time in her life.

“A sad Christmas song I wrote a few years back right before the holidays. Was feeling like sh-t [because] I couldn’t be with the one I loved. Even with a house full of family and friends, I still felt alone,” she shared. While she doesn’t call out specifically who the song is in reference to, fans were quick to assume Miley previously penned the song about on-again, off-again love Liam Hemsworth. The couple, who wed in December 2018, called it quits less than a year later.

“This is my sad Christmas song/I’ve had it stuck in my head all day long/I wrote it in the car on my ride home/Cause I knew I’d walk in the door and I’d be alone,” the lyrics read.

This year, the “We Can’t Stop” singer, who’s now dating Cody Simpson, is in a brighter state of mind and revealed over the summer that she’s the “happiest” and “healthiest” she’s ever been. Still, she admitted on Twitter that the song “still feels relevant” and hopes that others could relate to the song. “If you feel lonely this season just know YOU ARE COMPLETELY MADE OF MAGIC! You are as special as a snowflake , beautifully unique and I hope inside your soul feels light, hope, peace,” she wrote.
