The Kardashians are known for being a little out of touch when it comes to things like body image. But, in a surprising turn, Kim Kardashian is out there promoting body inclusivity with her new “Solutionwear” line, Skims — and getting praise for it. Kardashian recently posted a photo on her Instagram posing in a flesh-colored Skims bodysuit, which drops next Tuesday. She rocked the “full-body support” look, that includes, as she put it, “built-in compression to smooth your torso and sculpt your waist.” The line will come in nine colors in sizes XXS to 5XL, and there’s already a wait list, because of course.
Kardashian, who has taken flack for promoting laxatives and photoshopping her pictures, among many other things, actually received a wealth of positive comments on her Insta pic, which was followed by a slideshow of women with various body types modeling the “solutionwear” (and yes, she trademarked that term). “Love that it’s for all sizes,” one person commented. “Love seeing these beautiful curvy models,” said another, adding, “Can’t wait to rock these!”
To be fair, Kardashian is still promoting a product that is meant to alter women’s bodies. She already faced major scandal when she first debuted her shape wear line, calling it “Kimono.” But she changed the name, and Skims is on track to be a hit.
Kardashian is regularly shamed online — the latest debacle was when she allowed her daughter North to wear hoop earrings — so it’s nice to see people living in harmony on Kardashian’s Instagram today. At least for right now.
