Katherine Schwarzengger Wrote the Most Emotional Tribute in Honor of Late Cousin Saoirse Kennedy

Our hearts are breaking for this family. Katherine Schwarzenegger opened up about the death of her cousin, Saoirse Kennedy Hill, with an emotional tribute.. Schwarzenegger is the daughter of Maria Shriver and granddaughter of Sargent Shriver and Eunice Kennedy Shriver. She took to social media this week to share heartfelt words following her cousin’s burial.

It’s been an incredibly difficult time for the Kennedy family after they laid to rest 22-year-old granddaughter Saoirse last week. While the family has been in mourning, Schwarzenegger paid tribute to her late cousin with a lovingly written Instagram. “After wiping away the tears, after the beautiful sunsets, there is always a new day,” Schwarzenegger captioned a photo of a sunset. “It’s not the big events or pretty things that hold you up at the end of the day, it’s family.”

Schwarzenegger’s mother, Maria Shriver, was a cousin to Saoirse Kennedy Hill, making Katherine Saoirse’s second cousin. The bonds of the family are extremely close. During her time in high school, Kennedy Hill was honest about her struggle with mental health, working to de-stigmatize conversations around depression. “My depression took root in the beginning of my middle school years and will be with me for the rest of my life,” Kennedy Hill wrote in her high school paper, according to People. “Although I was mostly a happy child, I suffered bouts of deep sadness that felt like a heavy boulder on my chest.”

Authorities found Kennedy Hill unresponsive on Thursday, Aug. 1, in the home of her grandmother, Ethel Kennedy, at the family compound in Cape Cod along Nantucket Sound in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts. The 22-year-old’s official cause of death is pending a toxicology report.

Schwarzenegger concluded her heartfelt post, writing, “I feel so incredibly blessed to be part of such a loving, supportive and strong family that shows up in good times and in tough times. I love each and every one of them and am so grateful to have them in my life.”
