A royal baby christening is right around the corner. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will have Archie’s christening at a private Windsor Chapel, and the reason is so sweet. The backdrop for the very special day has special significance for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The event will be a royal and family affair, and royal devotees are eager if any images of the christening will be shared.
Baby Archie’s christening will mark a major milestone for the royal family, as well as for the site of the occasion. Archie will be baptized on July 6 — just a few short days away — and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were very purposeful about where they wanted hold the special day. The new parents “wanted an intimate, peaceful setting in a place with such a special connection to Her Majesty,” a royal source told People. The affair will be a private one, with roughly 25 people in attendance including family, close friends and Archie’s godparents.
“This is a beautiful milestone and they are excited to share it as a family first and then with the world,” the source continued. The site of Archie’s christening is deeply personal for the royal family. Located in Windsor Castle, the private chapel was built during Queen Victoria’s reign from 1840 to 1847. The chapel was destroyed as a result of the Windsor fire in 1992 and was rebuilt with contemporary updates in 1994. Near the intimate site is St. George’s chapel where Prince Harry married Meghan Markle just over a year ago in May, 2018. Prince Harry was also christened there 35 years ago in 1984.
Despite the happy occasion, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have received some unwarranted backlash from royal traditionalists. According to Mirror, the royal couple are not planning to invite the press to take photos following the occasion, meaning that there will likely be very little information revealed to the public. (The choice is considered a break in tradition from what other royal parents, like Prince William and Kate Middleton, have done.) Ingrid Seward, a royal expert and editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine, believes that the decision came from Prince Harry with Markle receiving the brunt of unwarranted criticism. “I think this is quite Harry-led and it is putting Meghan in a very difficult position,” Seward shared with MailOnline.
Seward continued, “She’s the one getting all the flak as a newcomer to the Royal Family. I assume Harry and Meghan don’t know where they are going wrong and think the criticism is all so very unfair.” Members of the public have also felt jaded by the more artistic photos the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been sharing of their family. But the young couple is making choices of their own and changing the royal parenting style that many had become accustomed to. Hopefully, this latest criticism won’t deter from the young family enjoying the special event.
