Chris Martin Was Planning on Proposing to Dakota Johnson Before Their Breakup

It’s a tough day for love. Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson broke up with no clear reason why. The Coldplay singer and Fifty Shades of Grey actress had been together for 18 months, but the breakup apparently happened a month ago and came as a surprise to close friends of the couple. In their relationship, Martin and Johnson were noted for being very affectionate with one another. A couple months ago, Johnson debuted an infinity tattoo, which looked similar to the same tattoo that Martin had on his arm. “Chris and Dakota were very easygoing and always seemed really happy together,” a source told The Sun. Prior to the breakup, the source said the couple had started discussing plans for their future, including an engagement.

“There was talk of engagement but now he says they have gone their separate ways, which has come as a real surprise to everyone,” the source added.  The couple was last seen together at  dinner at a restaurant in November 2018. Martin was previously married to Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow for 13 years, with whom he shares two children. The couple made the decision to “consciously uncouple” in 2014, with their divorce finalized in 2016.

Whenever asked about Johnson and Martin, however, Paltrow had nothing but kind words for the Suspiria actress, describing Johnson to the Sunday Times as “a fantastic woman.” “I adore her,” Paltrow added. Paltrow has since remarried director-writer Brad Falchuk. The couple is known to vacation with Martin on occasion.

Johnson, meanwhile, has a slew of projects in the works, including a 2020 film titled, The Friend, costarring with Game of Thrones actress Gwendoline Christie and How I Met Your Mother alum, Jason Segel. Here’s hoping love finds its way back to these two in the future.
