Reese Witherspoon is in the news this morning for two reasons. First, the second season of her hit HBO series Big Little Lies is dropping next week. And, second, Witherspoon brought her daughter Ava Phillippe to the BLL premiere on Wednesday night — where Ava basically stole the show. Why? Well, the internet seems to think the 19-year-old is her mother’s doppelganger. But c’mon. It’s clearer than ever that the young blonde beauty looks exactly like her other famous parent, actor Ryan Phillippe. There, we said it; fight us.
Ava enjoys a close relationship with both of her parents, who divorced in 2007 after nearly eight years of marriage. Accordingly, the teen is often seen with her parents at various events — like, for example, Wednesday’s season two premiere of BLL. It’s been a minute since Ava hit the red (or, in this case, blue) carpet with her mom, simply because she has been attending her first year of college. So, it was fun to see her make a cameo, rocking a sparkly black mini-dress that complemented Witherspoon’s blush and black Elie Saab dress. Not surprisingly, the internet can’t get over the similarities between the mother-daughter duo. But can we also talk about how the moment gave us serious circa-’90s throwback nostalgia to the days when Ryan and Witherspoon used to walk red carpets together?

Still, regardless of whether Ava looks more like her mom or dad — and, honestly, she can’t go wrong either way — the young woman is obviously proud of her mom for making BLL. At the premiere, Witherspoon’s production partner Nicole Kidman gave a nod to the people behind the scenes, saying before the screening, “Thank you to all our families. Anyone in this room who works really hard knows that if you have a supportive family, it makes it so much easier.”
And an Instagram post that Ava made on Mother’s Day this year left little doubt that’s she’s one of her mom’s biggest supporters. “My mom always reminds me, ‘pretty is as pretty does,’ and truth be told she is the prettiest woman I know. Happy mother’s day to my built-in best friend. Your drive to pursue your passions, your curiosity and willingness to learn, your care and compassion for others, and your strength to fight for what and who you care about all make me immensely proud to be your daughter,” Ava wrote, to which Witherspoon emotionally responded, “Well… now I’m crying. I love you so much. What a gift to be your mom.”
So, Ava might look just like her dad, but her heart sure seems a lot like her sweet mama’s.
