Jennifer Lopez has many superpowers — just ask fiance Alex Rodriguez. In a video posted to YouTube this past weekend, the singer-actor-producer hinted at another powerhouse on the scene: her 11-year-old daughter Emme. The video, which takes a peek at the star’s busy weekend schedule, includes a clip of her daughter singing Alicia Keys’ “If I Ain’t Got You” — and Emme has some serious pipes.
Catch the moment at the 4:00 minute mark.
In the video, the 49-year-old Lopez is rehearsing for an upcoming performance, but when Emme — her daughter with ex-husband Marc Anthony, a superstar singer in his own right — stops by for a visit, she switches gears to put the focus on her. “Sing Alicia Keys,” her mom suggests, though Emme needs little encouragement. Between her dancing into the room and her goofing around with the pianist, the tween is clearly comfortable in her mother’s rehearsal spaces — and given the full-throated, pitch-perfect rendition of Keys’ song that comes next, Emme definitely has the talent to back up her confident attitude.
The sweetest part of the video — beyond how excited we are for the next generation of Lopez-Anthony superstar — is how proud Lopez is of her little girl. She nods, sways, and even lip-syncs along with Emme’s moving rendition, and Emme beams right back. “We should have her come out and do something on tour,” the singer adds excitedly at the end. And when Emme demurs, offering a shyer “I don’t know,” her mom quickly backs off. “We’ll see. You don’t have to.”
Admiring her daughter’s talent while letting her make her own choices about what to pursue? Looks like nailing the supportive mom role is another of J. Lo’s not-so-secret superpowers.
