Hello, It’s Adele & She’s Using Memes to Tell You How She Feels About Her Breakup

Adele has always known the right thing to say when it comes to breaking up and it’s no different this time around. In the wake of the news that she and husband Simon Konecki had split after three years of marriage and more than seven years together, Adele is moving on, posting on Instagram as a way to process what’s happened. Adele’s post, a meme that acts as a post-breakup feelings update, is subverting our expectations about how the Queen of the Breakup Song is dealing with this big change in her life.

On Wednesday, Adele posted a meme to her Instagram commenting on her split with Konecki while also not once mentioning Konecki’s name — and it’s so perfectly savage. The post itself is a meme of two photos of Adele, side by side, showing her crying and also overjoyed. The meme’s caption reads, “When you catch yourself in your feelings and then you remember who you are.” Adele didn’t add her own caption into the mix, but honestly, who needs to add more to this already perfect meme?

Reps for Adele and Konecki confirmed their split on April 19. In a joint statement, the couple had this to say about the end of their decade-plus relationship: “Adele and her partner have separated. They are committed to raising their son together lovingly. As always they ask for privacy. There will be no further comment.” The exes have a son together, Angelo, who will turn 7 this year.

Adele has been keeping out of the spotlight recently, with no real information on what’s next for her when it comes to her career. But right now, we don’t mind waiting a little longer for a new album because what matters most is Adele doing what’s best for her and her son as she moves on without Konecki.
