We love a good secret wedding, don’t you? Celebrities sure do, largely because it gives them a fighting chance at keeping the paparazzi at bay long enough to exchange their vows in private. On Friday, April 26, another undercover star wedding went down — per British Vogue, Idris Elba married Sabrina Dhowre during a secret ceremony at the Ksar Bagh Hotel in Marrakesh, Morocco.
The wedding festivities reportedly stretched over three days, with friends and family gathering for a “colors of the Souk” themed dinner the night before the nuptials. On Saturday, the crowd is set to attend an all-white party at the Mandarin Oriental. As for the big day itself, Dhowre wore a custom-made off-the-shoulder, A-line gown by Vera Wang. After the ceremony, she changed into a V-neck style embroidered dress with pearls, gemstones and couture lace also by Vera Wang. Elba wore a custom suit by Ozwald Boateng. Accordingly, guests arrived in black tie.
And while the wedding may have been held in secret, People reports that it was by no means a muted affair. At the rehearsal dinner at Amanjena on Thursday, “There was a huge festive party with camels and fire dancers and dancing.” Sounds about right for Elba — the man has style in every sense of the word.
Although the date of the wedding remained a mystery, fans of 2018’s Sexiest Man Alive knew the day he was going off the market for good was fast approaching. In March, Dhowre shared a Boomerang clip of her closest friends at her bachelorette celebration at the luxury Utah resort Amangiri. “Had the most amazing weekend with the most amazing people. I love you all so much,” Dhowre captioned the clip.
The couple first met in 2017 when Elba filmed The Mountain Between Us in Canada, where Dhowre resided at the time. He then popped the question the following year at the screening of his film Yardie (spoiler alert: she said yes). As for what convinced longtime bachelor Elba that Dhowre was the one, he told People they “have good chemistry,” among other things. “She makes me laugh and we share common goals,” he said of his now-wife. “She makes me happy. She makes me celebrate my successes and when I’m not too sure about stuff, she makes me think.”
