You’ll need to clear some room in both your Netflix queue and your schedule very soon, because on Thursday, Netflix confirmed a reboot of The Baby-Sitter’s Club is happening. Fans of the original Baby-Sitter’s Club books, this is not a drill! The series we grew up reading in middle school is getting a new life at Netflix, and we have all the information you need to properly prep.
In an exclusive press release, Netflix shared the exciting news about the reboot, which, as you might suspect, will use the Baby-Sitter’s Club books written by Ann M. Martin as its source material. The 10-episode Baby-Sitter’s Club series will be a “contemporary live-action original series that will follow the friendship and babysitting adventures of five best friends in Stoneybrook, Connecticut.” The reboot is being deemed a family-friendly adaptation of the beloved book series, which we can totally get behind because this sounds like the perfect opportunity to introduce a new generation to this delightful world created by Martin and later adapted into a short-lived HBO TV series as well as a 1995 movie starring Rachael Leigh Cook, Schuyler Fisk and Ellen Burstyn.
At the time of Netflix’s announcement, there was no confirmation of any actors being considered for the key role of the babysitters, nor was a release date confirmed. The mystery around who will step into the shoes of babysitters Kristy Thomas, Mary Anne Spier, Claudia Kishi, Stacey McGill and Dawn Schafer only has us more excited about this reboot. We can’t wait!
Martin shared her excitement at The Baby-Sitter’s Club getting a new life on Netflix, commenting in the press release, “I’m amazed that there are so many passionate fans of The Baby-Sitters Club after all these years, and I’m honored to continue to hear from readers – now grown, who have become writers, editors, teachers, librarians, filmmakers – who say that they see a reflection of themselves in the characters of Kristy and her friends. So I’m very excited about the forthcoming series on Netflix, which I hope will inspire a new generation of readers and leaders everywhere.”

The original book series focused on a group of friends, led by Kristy Thomas, who create their own babysitting business in their hometown of Stoneybrook when they want to make some extra money. What starts as a moneymaking venture quickly turns into a passion project for the five friends, who not only mature in different ways thanks to the various adventures had while babysitting, but grow in their friendship as they work with each other.
This reboot may not have a premiere date yet, but we don’t mind, because this news is going to keep us energized for weeks to come.
