John Legend Preps for His First Day on The Voice With Chrissy Teigen in a New Clip

John Legend makes his first appearance as a coach on The Voice season 16 next week, and NBC is pulling out all the stops for its promotions. In a hilarious video posted on social media on Friday, Chrissy Teigen helps Legend prepare for his first day on The Voice, a bag lunch in hand and some supplies to help him relate to the other judges.

“John, hurry up, you’re going to be late for your first day on The Voice!” Teigen calls at the start of the video, as she rolls up a brown paper bag with his name on it. Legend emerges and she asks if he’s nervous, then shows him some supplies she’s packed: “This is a book of country sayings, so you know what Blake [Shelton] is saying. Then I have your button so you can practice on the bus. Ear plugs, because Kelly [Clarkson] talks a lot,” Teigen says, dropping into a whisper. “And some tattoos so you can look cool!”

“Oh. I thought I was cool,” Legend replies.

Teigen jokingly replies, “Not to Adam [Levine].”

A honk sounds outside and, noticing the school bus emblazoned with “season 16” above the windshield, Teigen hurriedly puts Legend’s backpack on him and sends him off, as if it’s his first day of school. As Legend steps off the bus at the studioThe Voice host Carson Daly wishes him luck, the way a good bus driver should.

The Voice posted a shorter version of the clip on Twitter, though E! News has the full video.

Ahead of Legend’s Voice debut, it would seem that Legend and Teigen aren’t the only ones who are nervous about what his tenure on the show might look like. In another clip posted on Twitter back in January, Shelton, Levine and Clarkson discuss Legend’s historic EGOT status and what that might mean for the new season.

How will blind auditions go for Legend and his fellow judges? What will happen on season 16? We’ll find out when The Voice premieres on Monday at 8/7c on NBC.
