The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Is Heading South to Miami for Season 3

Bye-bye, Catskills. Hello, Miami! It looks like Midge Maisel is taking her act south as The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel goes to Miami in season three — and the cast is perfectly happy to swap brisket for some palm trees and sunshine in a new interview, which also includes details of what fans can expect in the coming season.

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight at the Writers Guild Awards on Sunday, actors Tony Shalhoub and Marin Hinkle, who play Midge’s parents, Abe and Rose Weissman, opened up about the upcoming season of Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.

“I think I’ve heard that we’re going to Miami in June. That’s all I know,” Shalhoub offered about season three, continuing to play it vague by saying, “I don’t know what that [entails]. It’s about [Midge’s] tour, but that’s all I got.”

This certainly isn’t the first time Maisel has traveled to an exciting new location (remember that season two opener set in Paris?), but we are very interested in seeing how Miami ties in with where we left Midge in the last season. At the end of season two, Midge’s recent engagement to new beau Benjamin seemed be in jeopardy when she was offered a shot as the opening act of a musician’s major tour. Does Midge have room in her life to juggle a fiancé and a dream gig? Will Midge’s kids go along on the adventure? Should we expect some serious stress between Midge and her parents if the engagement falls through?

To that last question of ours, Shalhoub actually told ET he thinks Abe is coming around to his daughter’s comic gifts.

“I think that maybe he’s starting to realize that this isn’t just a pipe dream and that maybe, in the eyes of the public, she’s got something,” Shalhoub said of his character. “I’m not sure, but I think there’s a little bit of a thaw going on.”

Hinkle also commented that she’s hoping season three will bring change for her character, the obstinately traditional Rose.

“My hope would be that you stick Rose next to Alex’s [Borstein] character, Susie, and maybe we get to go to the fortune teller and have Katrina Lenk back because she’s magical,” Hinkle said. “So I think that would be wonderful. Rose… knows that her daughter does stand up, but she’s never seen her do it. So that would be a delight.”

Since premiering in 2017, the show has garnered numerous Emmy, Screen Actors Guild and Golden Globe awards, including a SAG Award for Shalhoub earlier this year. This, coupled with the lead cast — including Shalhoub and Rachel Brosnahan (who plays Midge) — getting significant salary hikes for season three due to the show’s success, makes it clear that lots of good things happening behind the scenes for the Maisel cast and crew. We’ll follow you anywhere, Midge and Abe and Rose and Susie and squad. Keep killing it and make sure you don’t forget the sunscreen when you head down to Miami this summer.
