We’re so here for women living their best lives and making their dreams come true. At the Casting Society of America’s 34th Annual Artios Awards on Thursday, Laura Dern gushed about working with Meryl Streep on two different projects and what it meant to her to play Marmee in Greta Gerwig’s new adaptation of Little Women, which is due to hit theaters later this year. From her comments, it seems like Dern is having a banner year, for so many reasons.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight on Thursday, Dern said, “[Filming Little Women] was amazing, can’t wait for everyone to see it. I know Greta Gerwig is hard at work in the editing room right now. It was a very, very beautiful experience. I too love the book so much. [It was] so amazing I get to play Marmee.”
Dern stars in Little Women as the March family matriarch, with Emma Watson, Saoirse Ronan, Florence Pugh and Eliza Scanlen playing the four March daughters. Streep, who also has a recurring role in the second season of Big Little Lies, stars as Dern’s character’s wealthy sister, Josephine.
“I can’t shake this broad! I mean, I was like, why do I have to work with Meryl Streep?” Dern joked to ET on Thursday, referencing their time spent working together on both Little Women and Big Little Lies. On a more serious note, she admitted, “It’s literally the dream of my life, and the fact that I spent from March to Christmas with her is just amazing.”
Earlier this month, Dern noted in another interview, “Meryl Streep, who is also in Little Women, is also in Big Little Lies. So she and I got to do two things in a row, which was a dream.”

Although she doesn’t have any additional projects with Streep coming up, Dern is still very busy. In addition to Little Women and Big Little Lies, she has at least three other upcoming projects in the works, according to her profile on IMDb.
