Good news, everyone! Judging by the list of new movies and television shows coming to Netflix in February, the month will be filled with copious amounts of cozy time on the couch. After all, what better way to beat cold weather blues than through binge-watching? Just think of it as a time machine that will transport you through the winter and into warmer months ahead.
Per the norm, this month’s roster of new selections proves to be an eclectic, welcome mix of nostalgic fare (say hello to the entire Jaws franchise!) and newer offerings — including a ton of Netflix originals.
So, stock up on microwave popcorn and keep your favorite blanket nearby. Here are a few of our favorites that you’ll want to add to your queue, followed by the full list of titles.
Russian Doll (Feb. 1)
To be honest, we’d watch Natasha Lyonne find her way out of a paper bag — she’s fantastic in everything. So, we can’t wait to follow her turn in Russian Doll. In this Netflix original, she plays a young woman named Nadia who is doomed to repeat her death over and over at the same New York City party every night. Did we mention Amy Poehler and Leslye Headland coproduce with Lyonne?
Ray Romano: Right Here, Around the Corner (Feb. 5)
Taking a page from Ellen DeGeneres’ playbook, Ray Romano is returning to his standup roots more than two decades after his last special. Prepare to laugh twice as much, too, because Romano tackles two sets on the same night in this exciting reentry to the stand-up scene.
The Umbrella Academy (Feb. 15)
We don’t care if our nerd is showing — we’re counting down the days until we can cue up The Umbrella Academy. Based on the super-popular graphic novel comic series by My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way, the series follows a group of estranged siblings with extraordinary powers who reunite to solve their father’s death. A true ensemble adaptation, it stars Ellen Paige, Mary J. Blige, Kate Walsh, Tom Hopper and Robert Sheehan.
The 40-Year-Old Virgin (Feb. 16)
Move over, Colton Underwood — the OG onscreen dude-virgin is in the house. Although more than a decade has passed since this Steve Carell comedy first hit theaters, it truly never gets old. The chest-waxing scene alone is worth its weight in gold.
Workin’ Moms (Feb. 22)
Catherine Reitman, daughter of Hollywood director Ivan Reitman, directs and stars in this clever mommy comedy out of Canada. Based on Reitman’s own life as a working mother, the sitcom centers on four moms struggling to juggle work, relationships and keeping tiny humans alive in the quest to “have it all.”
