Jennifer Grey Is Headed to Grey’s Anatomy

Since its premiere back in 2005, hospital drama Grey’s Anatomy has seen its fair share of rotating residents and patients. Season 15 of the ABC hit is currently on winter hiatus until January 2019, but the show plans to introduce a familiar face into the mix upon its return. According to TVLine, Jennifer Grey is joining the Grey’s Anatomy cast for multiple episodes.

Jennifer Grey has had a long and illustrious career. She is perhaps best known for her work in iconic ‘80s films like Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Dirty Dancing. In 2010, she competed on the 11th season of Dancing with the Stars and won the coveted Mirrorball trophy alongside professional dance partner Derek Hough. More recently, she starred in the Amazon series Red Oaks.

Details surrounding Grey’s (not to be confused with Meredith Grey, Grey’s Anatomy’s lead character played by Ellen Pompeo) arc are slim at this time, and unfortunately, there’s no confirmation on the role she’s slated to portray. Maybe the show will keep things in the family, and she’ll be connected to the character her father, actor Joel Grey, played in season six — a man diagnosed with Alzheimer’s who was a former teacher of Izzie Stevens’ (Katherine Heigl). It’s also possible Grey could take on the role of Jo’s mom. Camilla Luddington (who plays Jo) revealed to TVLine in September that there is a “strong possibility” Jo’s parents will make an appearance this season.

While Grey’s Grey’s Anatomy part (try saying that three times fast) remains a mystery, one thing fans can expect for sure when season 15 picks back up is more love-triangle action for Meredith, DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) and Link (Chris Carmack).

“I can’t really say where it progresses to but the train is definitely moving forward. There are moments when the train stands still a little bit and it’s moving inches instead of miles, but it’s definitely pushing forward. But it’s also pushing forward for Link. The triangle is still there. It’s like a chess game between Link and DeLuca,” Gianiotti divulged to EW.

Grey’s Anatomy returns to ABC on Jan. 17, 2019. We look forward to seeing how Jennifer Grey fits into all the never-ending juicy drama.
