There may been even more tension between Meghan (née Markle), Duchess of Sussex, and her father, Thomas Markle, than Meghan is willing to let on. With Thomas Markle recently going on the record and making potentially inflammatory claims that his daughter is terrified in her new role as a member of the royal family, Entertainment Tonight has released its own new report featuring claims that both Meghan and her husband, Prince Harry, are not at all pleased with Markle continuing to grant these kinds of tell-all paid interviews.
According to an unnamed source who spoke with ET, the implication is that Markle is not conferring with his daughter and son-in-law before doing the interviews with outlets like U.K. tabloid The Sun.
Noting that neither Meghan nor Harry has been in touch with Markle, the source notes that, "[They] are frustrated he keeps speaking to the tabloids and taking payment for interviews."
In the Sun interview that's allegedly sparked this new wave of discontent, Markle spoke about how he believes he knows Meghan is terrified, telling the outlet: "I see it in her eyes, I see it in her face and I see it in her smile," he explained. "I've seen her smile for years. I know her smile. I don't like the one I'm seeing now. This one isn't even a stage smile — this is a pained smile."
This may be the most we get to hear about this alleged tension between Meghan and her father, as one would expect both she and Harry will not release a public statement about Markle's actions. If it is true that Meghan is unhappy with her father's continued engagement with the press against her wishes — especially if he is making claims that may not be true about her — then hopefully, there can be a resolution to this disconnect so that the interviews can cool off a bit.
