Wedding receptions are the perfect opportunity to keep the celebration going at the start of a marriage, and even celebrities take advantage of that. In April, Hola! announced that Richard Gere and his longtime girlfriend, Alejandra Silva, had tied the knot. People magazine confirmed the news on April 23, citing a source who said the wedding took place “weeks and weeks ago” and that the couple is “extraordinarily happy.” And this weekend, they decided to share the love with family and friends.
According to further coverage from People, Gere and Silva hosted a reception on Saturday at his estate in Pound Ridge, New York. Attendees included composer Bette Sussman, who also performed at the party, as well as chef Éric Ripert, actor Saundra Santiago, writer Jonathan Cott and several Tibetan monks.
Santiago shared several photos from the party on Instagram, including a selfie with Silva. Santiago wrote, “So my friend married this beautiful soulful & wonderful woman tonight!”
Santiago also shared a photo of Sussman before her performance at the party.
Prior to the party, Silva posted a photo of prayer flags on her Instagram, writing, “Y el día ya llegó… que nervios…! And the day has come… so very excited!!”
According to People, Gere invited several Tibetan monks to the party as well — a clear connection to his own religious views and a thoughtful way to honor them during this new chapter in his life. In a 1999 interview, Gere said he first encountered Buddhism in his early 20s, and he has been a dedicated Buddhist for decades.
Silva is also a Buddhist. Per People, Silva told Spain’s ABC newspaper, “I was born Catholic, but converted to Buddhism two years ago. I think it was already inside of me. I believe in reincarnation so that’s why I think I was Buddhist before realizing it.” She chose to convert after she and Gere started dating in 2014.
Also per People, Silva told Hola! that meeting Gere made her feel “that someone was reaching out and showing me my true path.”
Gere and Silva seem incredibly happy together, and we wish them the best!
