Alanis Morissette has us a little tripped up right now because almost overnight, she has transformed into someone we don’t recognize. Don’t worry; this isn’t the bad kind of transformation where we’re giving her a cautious side-eye. Rather, we’re kind of in awe over Morissette’s total transformation, and the more we think about it, we’re really into it.
Us Weekly alerted us to the new look, and we had to find a full-length picture ASAP to take it all in. Gone are the long hair and streetwear we’re used to seeing Morissette sport. It’s really the end of an era. Morissette showed off her appearance on Wednesday while attending a performance of the hit Broadway musical Dear Evan Hansen. She wore a considerably shorter, shaggier haircut and paired the new hair with some cool aviator-style glasses with a chain. We can really only describe the look as “mom chic,” but it really suits her.
Why the new look, exactly? Well, according to Morissette’s Instagram, the singer has likely changed things up for her latest gig, a musical titled after her debut album, Jagged Little Pill. While Morissette has not officially confirmed her involvement, we can guess that she’s joined the Jagged Little Pill ranks because she’s been posting about it quite frequently. That new look of hers also happened right around the same time she started posting photos of rehearsals with the cast and a preview of the show’s script.
According to a Playbill news item about a preview of the musical, Jagged Little Pill will use Morissette’s music catalog as it tells the story of “a modern, multi-generational family” and will “explore gender and racial identity.” From the Playbill report and Morissette’s photos, the show appears to be in the preproduction/rehearsal stage.
Aside from these exciting developments with her look and the musical, Morissette’s been keeping a fairly low profile lately. She has some performances in Australia already in the books this past January, and this fun new project will likely be keeping her occupied over the coming months. Stay tuned for more developments, because if this new look is any indicator, the Jagged Little Pill musical is going to be a fun ride.
