Cardi B Flaunts Her Baby Bump on SNL, Confirms Pregnancy
During her appearance on Saturday Night Live this weekend, Cardi B laid those pregnancy rumors to rest — by confirming them! The rapper pulled a fast one on fans for her first performance in the episode, performing a medley of “Bodak Yellow” and “Bartier Cardi” in a feathered coat that concealed her baby bump. It was during her second performance, the new single “Be Careful,” that the camera panned out to reveal Cardi in a belly-hugging white dress.
In case that wasn’t clear enough, though, Cardi posted a tweet after SNL alluding to her expectant state: “I started winning when the whole world was doubting on me! think imma lose with my little baby counting on me?”
A short video also surfaced on Instagram in which Cardi B shouts, “I’m finally free!” after going backstage after her performance. No more hiding for this li'l mama, y’all.
Of course, it’s easy to predict that she’ll slay at motherhood like she’s currently slaying the rap game. Case in point? She just released her debut album, Invasion of Privacy, and it is beelining straight for No. 1. And fans can’t get enough of Cardi’s lyrical magic.
Although it’s been speculated over the past few weeks that Cardi could be pregnant — TMZ broke the story two weeks ago, albeit without confirmation — the rapper said nothing until Saturday's reveal. She cleverly concealed her growing bump with flowy clothes or by taking pictures at strategic angles. On her social media feeds, she simply joked that she was “getting fat.”
According to TMZ, Cardi is due the first week in July, meaning she’s done a damn good job of keeping her baby under wraps up to this point. She almost Kylie-Jennered the whole thing, if you will.
Her fiancé, Offset, managed to keep it quiet too, despite how excited the soon-to-be parents must be. The Migos rapper, who has three children from a previous relationship, finally made his feelings public following the SNL performance. “Cardi and I look forward to our next chapter together,” he tweeted, sharing a sweet photo of the two together.
Both rappers are set to take the stage at Coachella this month, and more power to Cardi, right? Climbing a flight of stairs exhausted me when I was pregnant, much less performing for thousands in the middle of the desert. Kudos to the Bodak queen for embracing her pregnancy with gusto.
Now that the baby-Cardi is out of the bag, Mom and Dad should both be able to thoroughly (and openly) enjoy the time left before their family grows by one. Congrats to the couple!
