"After 14 years together we have decided that ending our marriage is the best decision for our family," they said in a joint statement given to reporters on Friday. "We will continue our friendship and work as a team to co-parent our two beautiful girls as they are the most important thing in the world to us. We kindly ask that you respect our privacy during this time as we navigate the next phase of our lives."

From their statement, this sounds like it'll be a respectful, peaceful divorce. And documents that have been filed so far seem to back that up. Gayheart reportedly filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for their split. She also asked for legal joint custody for her and Dane of their two daughters, 7-year-old Billie and 6-year-old Georgia.

Dane and Gayheart got married in 2004. Their split may come as a surprise, but they haven't attended a red carpet together since summer of 2017, which may have pointed to some troubles with their relationship. They've also weathered a lot of storms together as a couple, including Dane's stint in rehab for a painkiller addiction. After all that, it may have seemed like nothing could break these two up, but it's possible their relationship has simply run its course. From their joint statement, it sounds like they both think they'll be happier apart than they are together. Here's hoping that is actually the case, because we wish nothing but the best for both of them.
