Suits Has Already Replaced Meghan Markle — Guess Who Got Her Job
Since Meghan Markle is about to become a real-life royal, forcing her to quit her acting career, there's a royal-size hole in the cast of Suits that needed filling. However, in a move no one saw coming, the show may have actually hired an actor who can fill Markle's shoes now that she's gone: Katherine Heigl.
That's right — the Grey's Anatomy alum has officially been tapped to be Markle's replacement on Suits, and while this might be the least expected casting decision of all time, we're kind of into it. Heigl has been enjoying a quiet life off TV screens the last few years, but her time on Grey's and as a rom-com darling in the years that followed showed she has the chops to really dig into this role.
"Joining Suits was the perfect organic way to not only collaborate with an executive producer I admire deeply, but to also become part of a show and cast that I am an immense fan of," Heigl said in a statement. "I have watched Suits from the very beginning and feel incredibly lucky to be the newest member of the Pearson Specter Litt family."
According to Refinery29, Heigl will join the show as a new partner at the firm. With her history of playing headstrong, empowered women, we can only imagine how her character is going to butt heads with the power-hungry Harvey Specter.
As for Markle? Her exit from Suits is an exit from her career as an actor altogether.
"I don’t see it as giving anything up. I see it as a change. It’s a new chapter," she said in a recent BBC interview. Considering the kind of schedule she's going to have as a brand-new British royal, who can even blame her?
We'll definitely miss Markle, but Heigl's new role might be just what Suits needs. Either way, we'll definitely be watching.
