Actor Shannen Doherty is back to work after battling breast cancer.
After nearly two years fighting the disease, Doherty announced in April 2017 she was in remission. Now, as of August 2017, she’s back on set doing what she loves.
Doherty took to Instagram on Monday to share all the feels about being back at work.
“Good morning. It wasn’t that long ago that I wondered if I would ever get to go back to doing what I love,” Doherty wrote in the caption. “Slipping into a character. Creating. Being on set, around the circus and feeling that deep satisfaction of accomplishment. This past week I worked 7 days. No weekend off and I loved every second. Yes I worked hard to get here but I’m also very blessed. Lucky, fortunate and not a day goes by that I don’t thank God for this blessing of a life I have. So off to work I go with a full spirit. A spirit of gratitude and love and deep appreciation. There is beauty in everything.”
Doherty shared her full journey on social media, including her hair loss and chemo days. But through it all, Doherty kept it positive. She explained in November 2016 while accepting the American Cancer Society’s Courage Award that cancer made her a better person.
“Cancer has changed my life for the better,” she said. “It’s made me a better human being. It stripped away all the walls and barriers… It exposes any lie in your life whatsoever. It exposes who’s not really truly there for you and who really is there for you. It’s this brilliant thing where you just look around and think, ‘Oh my God, this person is amazing. They’re showing up for me in a way I never expected.'”
As for what she’s working on in the new year? Doherty has joined the cast of the Heathers TV revival. She played one of the original Heathers in the 1988 movie.
She has also been tapped to reprise her Mallrats role in the upcoming TV series, MallBrats, which is a sequel to the 1995 Kevin Smith film.
