Meryl Streep Has Some Strong Feelings About Mariah Carey Taking Her Chair
Put all the celebrities in a room together, like at the Golden Globes, and drama is pretty much bound to ensue. But our favorite behind-the-scenes drama from Sunday's 75th Golden Globes was pretty lighthearted and harmless despite it occurring between two indisputable queens: Meryl Streep and Mariah Carey.
Streep appeared on Monday's episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, where she shared the story of what happened when she got up during a commercial break to stretch her legs and found Carey in her assigned seat when she returned.
"Bitch stole my seat!" she joked.
"Yeah I came over and there she was next to [Steven] Spielberg sucking up. She said, ‘Oh my God; they made me sit down!’ Because you know we’re moving they make you … Everyone has to drop to their seat," she continued, saying it's like musical chairs at the award show when a commercial break ends and everyone has to sit down.
"I was left out. I said, ‘No, no. Stay there. I’ll sit on your lap.’ Because you know it looked comfy," Streep added.
Carey also told her side of the story, saying she was on her way to the bathroom when the commercial break ended, forcing her to drop into the nearest seat, which just happened to be the one Streep had been occupying.
"Got caught mingling on the way to the loo during a commercial break.. took the first seat available, happens to be right next to Steven Spielberg," she wrote on Twitter. "Cut to next commercial break, guess who comes back to her seat..."
Glad these two aren't actually feuding over this, but maybe next year Carey should stick to her own seat just to be safe.
