Reese Witherspoon's Next TV Project Is Inspired by a Famous Podcast
Everyone who watched Big Little Lies and fell in love with Reese Witherspoon all over again: You're going to want to pay attention to this announcement. Witherspoon has yet another new project in the works, and it sounds like it could be her coolest one yet.
According to Refinery29, Witherspoon is developing another TV show based on the book Are You Sleeping by Kathleen Barber. The book is loosely based on the podcast Serial in that it's about a true-crime podcast that reopens a case that was long believed to be solved. For those who didn't listen to Serial (stop reading and download it now, please), it was about the case of Adnan Syed, who was convicted of killing his ex-girlfriend in the early '90s. The podcast examined some seriously large holes in the evidence used to convict him, and after Serial wrapped, Syed was granted a new trial.
While Serial was examining a true story, Are You Sleeping is fiction. Still, we saw what Witherspoon did with the twists and turns of Big Little Lies, so we can't wait to see what she does with this. Plus, the show is set to star Octavia Spencer. So, yeah, you can count us all the way in.
There's just one little thing: The show is going to stream on Apple TV, which is just starting to break into the original content game to compete with Netflix, HBO, Hulu and others. Many of us don't have it yet, so ugh, there's another streaming service we have to get. Still, for this show, it sounds like it's well worth it to shell out for one more.
