Maria Menounos Tied the Knot on Live TV, But That’s Not the Craziest Part

Anyone who was watching Fox’s New Year’s Eve broadcast last night got a huge surprise right before midnight: Maria Menounos and her boo-thang of 20 years, Keven Undergaro, got hitched on live TV in a surprise ceremony. But that’s not even the craziest thing about their wedding.

Nope, the most insane part is that they planned and pulled together that wedding in two weeks. Yep. 14 days. Anyone who’s ever planned a wedding is probably pretty skeptical right now, but they actually managed to pull it off.

“When I started working on the Fox New Year’s Eve special, I sat with the producer to go over what we were planning,” Menounos told People magazine. Fox was already hoping to do a live surprise wedding, but hadn’t found the perfect couple. “She said, ‘Unless you and Keven want to get married.’ And I was like, ‘Ha, ha, no.’ I was nervous but I got in the car and kept thinking about it and I was like, Wait, this really is kind of perfect.”

She then ran the idea by Undergaro… in a text message of all things. It turns out he was already planning a surprise wedding of his own, hoping to take some of the wedding planning pressure off Menounos, who was diagnosed last summer with a brain tumor. It didn’t take much convincing to get Undergaro to adjust his plans and go with this surprise wedding instead of the one he was working on.

“I’ve always wanted it to be super intimate and even though this is the opposite, we can only invite our immediate family, so the pressure of who to invite is gone. This was just so perfect,” Menounos gushed.

Undergaro was just as thrilled.

“I’m excited to be able to call her my wife,” he said. “It’s been girlfriend for so long that it will be nice to finally, finally be able to say ‘my wife.'”
