After Castle‘s unceremonious and unexpected cancellation, its stars are slowly returning to TV. Next up? Stana Katic, who will star in Amazon Prime Video’s new drama thriller series Absentia. The show is set to premiere on the streaming service in 2018 in the U.S. and a number of international markets, including the U.K., Australia, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Austria, Netherlands, Singapore, South Korea and Turkey.
In the show, Katic will play FBI agent Emily Byrne, who disappears while hunting a notorious serial killer in Boston and is eventually declared dead. Six years later, she’s found, barely alive, in a remote cabin in the woods. To thicken the plot, she has no memory at all of the six years she was missing. She returns home and struggles with the fact that her husband has remarried and her son is being raised by another woman, and as if that weren’t enough drama, she’s soon implicated in a series of murders that took place while she was missing.
“Absentia is an exciting new thriller which combines family and love with suspense and vindication,” Amazon’s Worldwide TV Content Acquisition VP, Brad Beale, told Deadline. “Prime members worldwide are going to love this well written show with remarkable performances by a terrific ensemble cast led by Stana Katic in her newest lead role.”
Alongside Katic, Absentia will star Patrick Heusinger as Agent Byrne’s husband and fellow FBI agent, Nick. Cara Theobold, Neil Jackson, Angel Bonanni, Richard Brake, Ralph Ineson, Paul Freeman, Bruno Bichir and Patrick McAuley also have roles in the series.
