Let’s All Be Like Margot Robbie & Wear a ‘Man’s Costume’ This Halloween

Buckle up fam, because Margot Robbie has some ~thoughts~ about Halloween costumes, and they’re not all great. In a new interview with W magazine, Robbie had a lot of feelings about what people should and shouldn’t wear on Halloween, and while we’re totally here for some of them, others left us cringing.

Let’s get the bad out of the way.

“Every Halloween I dress as a guy character because they are always the most fun,” Robbie said. “From day one, I never got the Halloween slutty costumes.”

She goes on to tell a story about her first Halloween in the U.S., and how it was snowing and women were wearing lingerie. Which is fine, because everyone should get to wear what makes them happy on Halloween (and every other day of the year). Halloween costumes cannot be slutty. They can be revealing, but they have no bearing on the actions of the person wearing them, so calling revealing clothing slutty is just really shamey and kind of rude. Like, let people wear what they want to and keep your comments to yourself. OK. Moving on.

Robbie actually loves cross-dressing for Halloween, so she usually goes as a male character. She’s dressed as Jason from Friday the 13th, as well as James Franco’s character in Spring Breakers, which are both solid choices. She really encourages cross-dressing for Halloween costumes, which is an awesome and fun idea!

“I’ve always dressed up as guy characters, so to think that guys are now trying to take on Harley [Quinn] because she’s the coolest and the craziest—that’s pretty awesome,” she said. “So many guys dressed up as her, which is my favorite thing.”

Except she doesn’t call the guys “slutty” for wearing revealing Harley Quinn costumes, which brings us back to the important thing we need to remember with Halloween right around the corner: Don’t be sexist and slut shame women for their costumes. Period.
