After a long year of staying behind the camera rather than in front of it, Angelina Jolie is considering a return to acting. But we still don’t know exactly what her next move will be.
Jolie had all six of her kids in tow when she appeared at the Telluride Film Festival to premiere her new film, First They Killed My Father, a drama about genocide in Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge in the 1970s. The film, which Jolie directed, has been well-received by critics and will make its debut in select theaters and on Netflix on Sept. 15.
Jolie has been pouring herself into directing and promoting the film, which leaves many wondering what’s next for her now that it’s nearing its release date. Speaking to reporters at the festival, Jolie revealed that even she doesn’t know that for sure yet, but there are a few things she’s considering — and one of them is a return to acting after more than a year away to focus on her family, she said.
“Right now, I don’t have anything to direct that I feel passionate about like this, so I’ll do some acting,” Jolie told The Hollywood Reporter. “I’ve taken over a year off now, because of my family situation, to take care of my kids … When I feel it’s time for me to go back to work, I’ll be able to go back to work. I’ve been needed at home. I hope [to work again] in the months to come.”
For her next project, a Maleficent sequel looks likely, Jolie said, but she’s also considering a script for Cleopatra. Whatever role she chooses, we know fans will be happy to see Jolie back on the big screen.
