True Detective Season 1 knocked television ratings out of the park, but Season 2 left fans with something to be desired. Luckily, it seems that Season 3 is intent on bringing the show back to legendary status because Mahershala Ali will be taking the lead. Yeah, we’d definitely watch him as a kickass detective.
Entertainment Weekly reports that, while Season 3 hasn’t officially been given the green light just yet, all signs look good, especially since Ali is officially confirmed to star.
During the Television Critics Association’s press tour, HBO President of Programming Casey Bloys explained, “I have read five scripts for a third season. I’m very, very impressed and excited about what I’ve read. I don’t want to give away the storyline, but I really think they’re terrific.”
Bloys also explained that the final step before beginning production is to find directors, which the network is currently working on.
Ali himself is also excitedly sharing the news about Season 3:
Season 1 of True Detective, which starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, was nominated for four Golden Globes in 2015. Season 2, on the other hand, which starred Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams and Vince Vaughn, couldn’t maintain audiences’ fervor. For a while, HBO hadn’t even confirmed if there was going to be a Season 3 of the anthology series at all.
Luckily, True Detective will have another chance to hit it big, and casting Ali seems like a very, very good first step.
