Charlize Theron Didn't Fake Her Atomic Blonde Fight Scenes
Charlize Theron ain't no one to mess with.
In a behind-the-scenes video from her new movie, Atomic Blonde, we get a glimpse of Theron doing the training necessary to do all of her own stunts, including badass fight scenes against some pretty big, burly-looking dudes. Seriously, you don't want to mess with her because she will knock you out, son.
All of this training that we can witness in all its glory above actually came up in a recent interview Theron did. For a new interview with Variety, Theron described the training she underwent that caused her to twist her knee, bruise her ribs and clench her jaw so hard she cracked two teeth, requiring extensive dental surgery. "It happened the first month of training," she explained. "I had severe tooth pain, which I never had in my entire life."
She said she thought she just had a cavity, but when she went to the dentist, she learned she would have to have surgery before she began filming in Budapest. "Having to cut one of the teeth out and root canals," Theron continued, "[I]t was tough. You want to be in your best fighting shape, and it’s hard. I had the removal and I had to put a donor bone in there to heal until I came back, and then I had another surgery to put a metal screw in there."
But it was clearly all worth it, because Theron already looks like a total badass in promotional footage for Atomic Blonde, the next female-centric hero movie in the age of Wonder Woman, one of the most successful films of the summer. And if you ask us, the rise of female superheroes is long overdue.
Way to go, Theron — giving girls their own heroes to look up to is so 2017.
