There’s no doubt about the fact that the world is going through a phase of intense love for Wonder Woman. It’s one of the biggest films of 2017 and it’s inspiring women everywhere to be their own superhero. So, it stands to reason that, given all the hype, fans want to know any and all new details about Wonder Woman 2.
Well, you’re in luck, my friends, because I finally have some fun news to share with you. According to a new report at Screen Rant, Wonder Woman 2 may be set in the 1980s. Picture it: Diana with some puffy hair and crispy bangs, Duran Duran playing in the background and some seriously cool neon just about everywhere. OK, well, maybe Diana won’t have the bangs, but you get it — this is a serious time jump for our favorite Amazonian warrior.
While the studio has remained tight-lipped about confirming the plot details, Screen Rant‘s report includes details they obtained themselves about the nature of the Wonder Woman 2 plot. It “will be another historical adventure prior to the modern day DCEU [the DC Comics Extended Universe, which includes Batman and Superman, etc.]. Set during the 1980s, the film will send Diana against the forces of Soviet Union in the closing days of the Cold War.” Wonder Woman fighting the Soviets? Count me in, but also, I might be watching through my fingers because this sounds intense.
Screen Rant also notes the very odd rumor that Steve Trevor will return for Wonder Woman 2 but (spoiler alert), considering he sacrifices himself in the third act of Wonder Woman, this may be easier said and done. There’s also a strong possibility that Patty Jenkins will return to direct the film, but she is definitely working on the story. Jenkins absolutely should come back to direct considering she is a major part of the first film’s success, but knowing that her voice will influence the script is great news too.
It’s definitely exciting to see some new details emerge about Wonder Woman 2, even if they are mostly unconfirmed by the studio. If anything, it will be interesting to see Diana fighting and working in a new era and surrounded by a whole new host of characters. Are you ready for more Wonder Woman?
