They were all over the Cannes Film Festival and attended the closing ceremony together as a very couply-looking couple, and then the shock of his surprise golden-leaf prize win for best actor may have just shaken up Phoenix enough to admit it to a crowd.
Phoenix was given the award for his role in You Were Never Really Here, and he clearly didn’t expect to win — when his name was announced, he turned to Mara, who was in the seat next to him, and asked her, “Do I have to go up there?” Then he took the stage and apologized for his Converse shoes.
“This was totally unexpected, as you can see from my shoes,” he said from the stage.

Later on in the night at a press conference, Phoenix told reporters, “Before I came here, I told my girlfriend it was going to be a really good experience because I was going to get crushed and that would be really humbling.”
There it is. He used the “girlfriend” word. This shit is confirmed with a capital C.
After the presser was over, Phoenix and Mara were seen holding hands and hanging out at the event before they left together in the same car.
“Small talk between them. Then they went for their car and he’s holding her hand like it was unconscious. Like it fits. They seem a totally natural and easy couple,” one onlooker said.
Phoenix and Mara met on the set of Her and reportedly fell for each other while filming their upcoming movie, Mary Magdalene. They’ve been rumored to be dating pretty much ever since, which is something we fully support.
